Summer Activities

For outsiders, particularly non-Canadians, the summer months in Winnipeg can come as a surprise. Far from the snow-covered tundra that might be what most imagine, the average temperature in the summer months is a very pleasant 22°C. While we embrace the outdoors whatever the weather, summer gives us the opportunity to get involved in a broad range of different activities.

Here are some of our absolute favourite things to do in the summer:

Beaches

Manitoba boasts over 100,000 lakes, providing an abundance of stunning beaches with soft sand, tranquil waters, and picturesque horizons ideal for sunrise or sunset views. One standout destination is Grand Beach, located on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, renowned for its powdery white sand beaches and grass-topped dunes, earning it a place among the top beaches in North America.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional football team based in Winnipeg. They compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and have a rich history, dating back to their establishment in 1930. The Bombers have won multiple Grey Cup championships, with a strong and dedicated fan base supporting them with an atmosphere electrifying at IG Field.

Festivals

Winnipeg's vibrant summer scene comes alive with an array of diverse festivals, offering something for everyone. From the iconic Winnipeg Folk Festival and its eclectic music lineup to the electric energy of the Fringe Theatre Festival to the ethnocultural celebrations of Folklorama, these events create an atmosphere of celebration and cultural richness, showcasing the city's love for art, music, and community gatherings.

Winnipeg Sea Bears

Winnipeg Sea Bears, the city's latest addition to professional sports, emerged in 2023 as part of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Debuting with a spectacular inaugural season, the Sea Bears made a significant impact, setting numerous CEBL attendance records and solidifying Winnipeg's reputation as a passionate basketball community.

FortWhyte Alive

Six hundred-forty acres of pristine prairie beauty are waiting to welcome you in this oasis just south of the city. In summer, feel the wind in your hair canoeing or sailing on one of FortWhyte’s several lakes. In fall, sip a locally brewed beer on their restaurant patio while witnessing North America’s largest animal (the bison) roam in its natural habitat as migrating birds fill the sky.
